Experts in venture capital and technology company growth join PARTEQ board

KINGSTON, ON –  PARTEQ Innovations is pleased to announce the appointment of three new members to its Board of Directors. The trio brings a strong portfolio of experience from across the commercialization spectrum, including technology development and licensing, spinoff company growth and management, corporate governance, and investment financing.

Tom Beynon is a partner with McCarter Grespan Beynon Weir LLP, specializing in technology and business law. A mechanical engineer by training, Mr. Beynon is intimately aware of the challenges and nuances of the technology sector. He helps guide and advise technology companies, offering expertise in licensing and distribution arrangements, technology transfer, and joint ventures, both within Canada and internationally. He also advises on business and corporate matters, including international financings and commercial transactions. He was a founder of Communitech, the Waterloo Region technology association. He was on the Waterloo Research Park Advisory Committee, he crafted the Centre’s governance model, and chaired the committee to establish its board of directors. He is currently the Vice-Chair, Secretary and director of the Centre.  Mr. Beynon is a graduate of Queen’s University (BSc, Mech Eng) and University of Saskatchewan (LLB). He also possesses ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors, and he is currently completing an LLM specializing in Intellectual Property at Osgoode Hall, York University.

Barry Gekiere has more than 25 years of senior management experience in venture capital, private equity and operations.  As a member of the senior management team at MaRS, the Toronto innovation hub, he is Managing Director of the Investment Accelerator Fund, a seed fund that helps early stage Ontario technology companies bring their products and services to market. Prior to joining MaRS he worked with the Kirchner Private Capital Group’s Transition Management practice, as CEO  with an aerospace components company. Previously he was a partner at Ventures West, managing early stage investments in IT, communications, cleantech and medical device companies. He has served on the board of the Canadian Venture Capital & Private Equity Association. Mr. Gekiere is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario (BA).

Tom Kaneb is an experienced venture capitalist with a long track record of building successful companies in the telecom , biodiesel, pharma, and fuel oil industries, among others.  He is founding shareholder and Chairman of Sigma Point Technologies Inc.;  founder and director of the $130 M Palos Income Fund;  and partner in Miralta Capital. A resident of Cornwall, he has been instrumental in the development of the city’s high tech sector, and was a significant contributor to numerous civic initiatives.  He was founding chair of the Centre for Water and the Environment at Queen’s and member of the McGill University Faculty of Management’s International Advisory Board; and co-chair with wife, Gail, of $12 m fund-raising campaign for Cornwall General Hospital. He is also active in microfinance for developing countries.  Mr. Kaneb is a graduate of Phillips Academy, Andover (MA), Queen’s University (BSc, Mechanical Engineering) and Harvard University (MBA).
