For immediate release

KINGSTON, ON - PARTEQ Innovations, the technology transfer arm of Queen's University, has joined technology transfer offices at academic research institutions across Ontario in a new organization to promote the commercialization of innovative research. The Ontario Society for Excellence in Technology Transfer (onSETT) , representing universities, research hospitals and other institutions, will be the voice for technology transfer across Ontario.

OnSETT's mission is to foster a robust technology transfer environment by strengthening commercialization networks, promoting high quality commercialization practices, collecting and disseminating statistics and measures of commercialization activity, and educating members and stakeholders.

"OnSETT is concrete evidence that the Ontario universities and affiliated institutions are committed to working together to improve our capacity and capability to mange the commercialization of university-based research results," says John Molloy, President and CEO of PARTEQ. "Hopefully one strong voice will facilitate efforts to build the required infrastructure in the province."

"There was a clear need for universities, research hospitals and other academic centres to come together through a network of like-minded professionals to share know-how, promote best practices and communicate the importance of the task of technology transfer to the community and its vested partners," says Thomas Parsons, chair of the onSETT Board of Directors and senior business development officer with the University Health Network of Toronto. "Our science competes with that of the best knowledge centres in the world. We cannot afford to under-utilize this resource."

Supporting onSETT is the Centre for Innovation Law and Policy (CILP), which will take an active role in developing the onSETT network. Its assistance will include design and hosting of a virtual, web-based meeting place, promoting and disseminating research in commercialization practices, and sponsoring and developing conferences and other educational events near onSETT member locations.
