President and Chief Executive Officer

PARTEQ Innovations seeks a President and CEO.
PARTEQ Innovations was founded in 1987 by Queen's University at Kingston, Ontario, Canada to commercialize intellectual property (e.g. inventions) arising from university-generated research. A not-for-profit organization, PARTEQ provides researchers with the business, intellectual property, and financial expertise that is needed to advance their discoveries to the public, while returning the proceeds from those activities to researchers and their institutions. In its 25-year history, PARTEQ has been a leader in the technology transfer field, fostering new models of innovation and entrepreneurship.  Queen’s is one of Canada’s leading research-intensive universities, and in partnership with PARTEQ has been among the leaders in the commercialization of university research.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President and CEO  is responsible for developing and implementing PARTEQ’s strategic plan and goals to support the future success and financial viability of the organization.  The new President and CEO will  lead and develop PARTEQ’s team to advance technology transfer and commercialization, and seek synergies across the innovation ecosystem within Queen’s, regionally, provincially, nationally and internationally to achieve PARTEQ’s goal of advancing discovery®.    
Key responsibilities include:
  • Identifying and assessing opportunities for patentability and commercial potential
  • Developing business strategies, negotiating agreements and facilitating the commercialization process for intellectual property 
  • Communicating proactively with potential partners and investors about inventions and their commercial potential
  • Leading the commercialization team to ensure organizational, financial and performance goals are met 
  • Cultivating relationships with university alumni to provide leadership and support for PARTEQ activities
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in science or engineering (Masters or Doctorate preferred) along with a business education such as an MBA or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Several years of business experience including founding and running technology-based companies  
  • Experience assessing intellectual property for commercialization 
  • Demonstrated business development and negotiation skills in leading projects to commercialize intellectual property
  • Established relationships within the investment community
  • Experience managing and mentoring professional teams
  • Knowledge of intellectual property law, strategies for protection, licensing and other asset management and collaboration agreements
  • A venture capital background and/or experience raising seed capital and working with government granting agencies is an asset
  • An entrepreneurial approach and an affinity for risk-taking and innovation
  • Talent for building trust and credibility with a broad spectrum of stakeholders  
  • Exceptional communication, networking and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to lead teams and collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders
  • A visionary with the ability to deliver results
