PARTEQ
licensee AdapCS Canada Corp. wins KTC Award of Excellence
Feb. 11, 2006
For immediate release
KINGSTON, ON -- AdapCS
Canada Corp., a Kingston-based healthcare informatics
company, was honoured for Axcess.Rx, its novel wait
list software technology, at the sixth annual Kingston
Technology Awards of Excellence gala, held Saturday,
Feb. 11.
AdapCS received the Emerging Technology Award, given
in recognition of a product, service, or process with
the greatest potential for benefit.
Axcess.Rx was developed under the direction of Dr. Marshall,
a longtime neurosurgeon, John Lott, Director of Information
Analysis and Distribution for KGH, and Jonathan Bennett,
a systems programmer analyst at KGH, under a grant from
the Ontario Hospital Association's Change Foundation.
The software suite enables physicians and hospitals
to effectively manage patients waiting for services
and to allocate resources appropriately. PARTEQ Innovations,
the technology transfer agent of Kingston General Hospital,
has filed for patent protection on the waiting list
technology and has licensed exclusive rights for commercialization
to AdapCS Canada.
Axcess.Rx is currently in use in two Canadian provinces.
Kingston General Hospital and Hotel Dieu hospitals in
Kingston, Lennox and Addington County General Hospital
in Napanee, and the Hospitals of the Capital District
Health Authority in Nova Scotia use Axcess.Rx, which
connects with existing Admissions Discharge and Transfer
(ADT), scheduling, and Electronic Health Record systems.
“We are delighted
with this recognition,” says Dr. John Marshall, President
and CEO of AdapCS Canada. “The software, designed to
solve data and management problems for hospitals, does
so by leveraging and improving the processes of care
and enlisting the support and cooperation of physicians
and other care givers – a relatively novel approach.
We could not have achieved this without the support
and encouragement of both Kingston General Hospital
and PARTEQ Innovations,” he says.
“Developing a product for, and selling into, hospital
systems is very difficult, with very long lead times,”
says John Molloy, President and CEO of PARTEQ. “During
this struggle to break into new markets it is therefore
very encouraging for the entrepreneurial team at AdapCS
to realize that their efforts are recognized within
the community. Solutions to address wait list problems
are critical, and we are very pleased that AdapCS is
making such progress in this area.”
AdapCS Canada was selected by a panel of judges from
the venture capital and technology sectors in Ottawa,
Toronto and Guelph. This year's honour was the seventh
garnered by a PARTEQ-supported technology since the
Awards of Excellence program began in 2001.
