Robert Shoniker, Caroline Somers appointed to board of Queen’s University’s PARTEQ Innovations

KINGSTON, ON -- PARTEQ Innovations, the technology transfer office of Queen’s University, is pleased to announce the appointments of Mr. Robert Shoniker and Ms Caroline Somers to its Board of Directors.

Mr. Shoniker is a founder, investor and director of Mondial Energy Inc., a new alternative energy company. He is also founder and president of R.G. Shoniker & Associates Inc. and Courage Capital Corp., with a record of more than $600 million in financing, mergers, acquisitions and transactions. From 1985-87 he was Director, Emerging Growth Investments at McCarthy Securities Ltd. He was also co-founder and CEO of Accugraph Corp., a computer graphics applications software company, and founded two consulting companies focused on market research and strategic planning.

He is a graduate of Queen’s University (BComm, MBA) and holds a number of company directorships. He is a former board member of the Kid’s Help Foundation and of the Young Peoples Theatre, and Photonics Research Ontario, one of four Centres of Excellence sponsored by the Province of Ontario. He has also been a judge with the Kingston Technology Council Awards of Excellence.

Caroline Somers is a senior executive with experience in company development, product line growth strategies and venture investing. She is the co-president and CEO of Cassidy Bay Group, providing consulting and coaching services in corporate strategy and performance management. She is also a managing partner of Band of Scoundrels, an angel investment group. She was co-founder and Vice-President of Vienna Systems, a pioneering VoIP products company later sold to Nokia, and held senior positions in Newbridge Networks Corp. and Bell-Northern Research.

Ms Somers is a graduate of Queen’s University (BA, MBA) and holds a number of board positions in Ottawa and Kingston, including DNA Genotek Inc. of Ottawa and Volunteer Ottawa. She is also sits on the advisory council of Queen’s Cancer Research Institute.

Mr. Shoniker and Ms Somers will each serve three-year terms on the board, which is chaired by Dr. Kerry Rowe, Vice-Principal (Research) of Queen’s University.
