PARTEQ appoints three new Directors, Commercial Development
Hirings funded through Ontario Research Commercialization Program

KINGSTON, ON -- PARTEQ Innovations, the technology transfer arm of Queen’s University, is pleased to announce the appointment of three new Directors of Commercial Development.
Dr. Perry Kim has been appointed Director, Commercial Development, Life Sciences. Dr. Kim joined PARTEQ in 2002, when he was hired under the Intellectual Property Management Program (IPM) as a Manager of Commercial Development. Since that time Dr. Kim has managed a number of early stage spinoff companies developed out of Queen’s research, including GB Therapeutics Ltd., Neuroceptor Inc., AtheroChem Inc., Nometics Inc. and Chronic Acute Pain Technology (CAPT) Inc. Dr. Kim is a named inventor on 4 patent applications and has numerous publications and presentations to his credit.
Previously Dr. Kim held a joint appointment as Assistant Professor in the departments of Pharmacology and Toxicology and the School of Environmental Studies at Queen’s University. His research expertise was in molecular pharmacology and toxicology, with a focus on carcinogenesis. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto (BSc, PhD, Toxicology). His appointment is effective immediately.
Dr. Rui Resendes has been appointed Director, Commercial Development, Chemistry and Materials Science. Dr. Resendes comes to PARTEQ from LANXESS Inc., a global manufacturer of synthetic rubber, chemicals and plastics, where he has worked on a number of academic research collaborations, including with Queen’s. He has extensive technology transfer experience, including product development, intellectual property management, and marketing.
Dr. Resendes is a graduate of University of Toronto (BSc, PhD) with specialization in advanced materials. He is a named inventor on 11 patent applications and has numerous publications and presentations to his credit. His appointment is effective Sept. 4, 2007.
Mr. Stephen Adolph has been appointed Director of Commercial Development, Engineering and Information Technology. Mr. Adolph brings a strong background in the founding and management of information technology ventures. He began his career in 1989 as a design engineer with Bell Northern Research Ltd., joining Nortel in 1996, where he held a series of management positions. In 2000 he co-founded Akara Corp, a specialized telecom equipment company, where he engaged in all aspects of the company’s growth, including securing $47 million in venture capital investment and the eventual acquisition of Akara by Ciena Corp., where, as Vice-President of Management and Enterprise, he continued to grow the business.
Mr. Adolph is a graduate of the University of Toronto (BASc Engineering) and Queen’s University (MSc Electrical Engineering) and is a named inventor on four patents. His appointment is effective Oct. 1, 2007.
Reporting to Ms Anne Vivian-Scott, Vice-President, Commercial Development, the new directors will oversee all aspects of the assessment and development of discoveries arising from research in their respective fields at the institutions to which PARTEQ provides commercialization services.
These appointments are part of an expansion in scope and capacity at PARTEQ made possible by funding from the Ministry of Research and Innovation’s Ontario Research Commercialization Program (ORCP).
