PARTEQ receives $240,000 to recruit, train commercial development professional

For immediate release

Feb. 14, 2007

KINGSTON, ON -- PARTEQ Innovations, the technology transfer office of Queen's University, has been awarded $240,000 under a unique training and expertise-sharing program established by the Ontario Society for Excellence in Technology Transfer (OnSETT).

The funding -- $80,000 per year for three years – enables PARTEQ to hire a Manager of Commercial Development to assist researchers at Queen's University, Royal Military College, Kingston General Hospital and St. Lawrence College in advancing to market technologies in the areas of engineering and information technology.

In addition to working with researchers at institutions served by PARTEQ, this individual will also be required to allocate 25 per cent of their time to assisting researchers at other Ontario-based universities, colleges and research institutions.

The PARTEQ position is part of OnSETT's new Professional Development and Mentoring of Commercialization Managers Program, which was established with $2.2 million in funding from the Ministry of Research and Innovation's Ontario Research Commercialization Program . The OnSETT program was set up to address the shortage of professionals in Ontario capable of dealing with the special challenges arising from the development of very early stage research innovations.

“We are very pleased to receive this funding,” says John Molloy, President and CEO of PARTEQ. “This program is unique. It addresses the need to increase Ontario's supply of trained technology transfer professionals by pairing individuals from industry with the professional development and mentoring resources available through Ontario's institutional technology transfer offices. At the same time, it allows offices such as ours to strengthen our commercialization efforts in a targeted sector, and hopefully foster increased interactions between universities and industry.”

The OnSETT funding is in addition to $3.1 million which PARTEQ recently received from the Ontario Research Commercialization Program (ORCP) to assist it in advancing promising research discoveries into the commercial market.
