Duncan Jones appointed managing director, Ontario Society for Excellence in Technology Transfer

TORONTO -- The Ontario Society for Excellence in Technology Transfer (OnSETT) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Duncan Jones as Managing Director, effective July 17.

Mr. Jones is a life sciences entrepreneur with more than 15 years of experience in the growth and development of life sciences commercialization opportunities in Ontario. Before joining OnSETT he was Executive Director of the Sunnybrook Working Ventures Medical Breakthrough Fund and the Medical Venture Fund, comprising $9 million in early stage investment funds for commercializing technologies arising from health-care research at the University of Toronto. During this time he also served as President and CEO of Molecular Templates Inc., a cancer therapeutic startup company, where he directed the research team, developed strategy and pursued strategic partnerships and follow-on financing.

Previously he was a senior executive at Pasteur Merieux Connaught (now Sanofi Pasteur), directing corporate business intelligence, research project management and research administration. He also established and managed numerous academic-industry relationships, including material transfers, collaborative research and technology licenses. Mr. Jones is a graduate of University of Toronto (MSc, MBA), where he studied biochemistry and medical genetics before completing his business degree. He is a member of the Licensing Executives Society, the Project Management Institute, the Toronto Biotechnology Initiative, and the Toronto Venture Group.

Reporting to the OnSETT Board of Directors, Mr. Jones will implement a variety of initiatives to enhance technology transfer at Ontario’s universities, hospitals and research institutes.
