PARTEQ Innovations, spinoffs
highlight leading-edge technologies at BIO 2002
KINGSTON, ON -- New technologies developed at Queen's
University that offer promise in the treatment of cholesterol
disease and infertility will be highlighted by PARTEQ
Innovations at BIO 2002, the world's largest biotechnology
gathering, in Toronto June 9-12.
John Molloy, President and CEO of PARTEQ, and Anne Vivian-Scott,
Director of Commercialization, PARTEQ, will showcase
the Queen's discoveries at the Technology Transfer Forum,
expected to be one of the biggest draws of the three-day
convention and exhibition.
Also presenting at the forum will be PARTEQ spinoff
companies Cardiomics, Inc., a functional proteomics
company focused on the development of diagnostics and
therapeutics for heart disease, and GBtherapeutics Inc.,
a drug discovery company developing small molecules
for the treatment of central nervous system and cardiovascular
disorders.
"BIO is an excellent opportunity for PARTEQ to
bring Queen's-generated advances in life sciences to
a broad sector of the biotechnology and investment communities,"
says John Molloy, President and CEO of PARTEQ Innovations.
The Queen's group joins more than a dozen Kingston companies,
organizations and institutions who will be promoting
the city's emerging biotechnology sector at the BIO
2002 exhibition in the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
A centrepiece of the Kingston Biotech booth will be
leading-edge technology from Qubit Systems, Inc., the
Kingston-based designer and manufacturer of laboratory
teaching aids and gas detection products. Qubit, one
of PARTEQ Innovations' earliest spinoff companies, exports
its products to more than 150 universities in 46 countries
world wide.
The Kingston Biotech booth, sponsored by the Kingston
Economic Development Corporation and directed by Shelagh
McDonald, Manager of the Kingston Biotechnology Action
Plan, is located within the Canadian pavilion in the
south hall of the convention centre.
The theme of this year's BIO is Life Advances - La vie
avance. The event, which features more than 150 sessions
and symposia with 800 speakers covering 18 program tracks,
is expected to attract more than 14,000 participants
from 50 countries world wide.
