About the PARTEQ Proof of Principle (POP) Fund:
The PARTEQ Proof of Principle Fund was funded through the Ontario Research Commercialization Program to support the development of commercial applications for technology developed at Queen’s University. Eligible projects must meet the acceptance criteria of PARTEQ, which will manage the commercialization of the projects. Projects are eligible for up to a total of $135,000 in development funding. The PARTEQ POP Fund totals $970,000 until March 31, 2010.

POP Fund support can be applied to a range of activities including, but not limited to, the following:
• Intellectual property protection;
• Prototype development;
• Bench scale demonstration;
• Technology application testing and optimization;
• Technology and market assessment;
• Business plan development; and
• New company start-up.
Why should I apply?
Promising discoveries with commercial potential require additional funding that is not always readily available. This fund enables you to overcome that hurdle and embark on the early stages of commercial development. It also helps you to position your project for federal funding (NSERC or CIHR) as well as private sector funding.
How much money can I get?
The POP fund offers staged funding, depending on the development status of your project:
• Stage 1: up to $10,000
• Stage 2: up to $25,000
• Stage 3: up to $100,000 with a maximum funding round of no more than $50,000
How does the process work?
1. Researchers work collaboratively with their PARTEQ commercial development manager to prepare and submit a POP application form.
2. Projects seeking more than $10,000 are reviewed by the PARTEQ POP Advisory Committee.
3. Where applicable, researchers present their projects to the Advisory Committee.
4. Advisory committee advises candidates of their decision.
