Unlocking the secrets of drug resistance

Drs. Susan Cole and Roger Deeley's 1992 discovery of the gene coding for Multidrug Resistant Protein, (MRP) was critical to the understanding of drug resistance in cancer therapy. Their research showed that this protein acts as a molecular ‘pump,' moving molecules and compounds out of cells. The inventors continue their work in the area of multidrug resistance, and their discovery continues to broaden scientific understanding of how the body deals with many types of drugs.
